Generational change in the Executive Board: Ulrich Wiegel retires – Mike Eberle assumes the reins

After a professional career spanning 34 years at the traditional company in Freyburg, Ulrich Wiegel, head of production, quality management, technology, purchasing and supply chain management, will leave Rotkäppchen-Mumm Sektkellereien GmbH at the end of the financial year on 30.04.2019 to take long-planned retirement. Wiegel’s successor at the company’s headquarters in Freyburg (Unstrut) will be the experienced beverage specialist Dr Mike Eberle.

The retirement of Ulrich Wiegel, which takes place as part of the generational change introduced in 2013, means the departure of the last operationally active shareholder in the family-run company. Wiegel’s professional career is inextricably linked to the success of the traditional, Freyburg-based company, which is unique in recent German economic history. As part of the privatisation of the former Rotkäppchen Sektkellerei in March 1993, he was one of the shareholders who invested great courage and commitment in transforming the national sparkling wine producer into an internationally successful company today.

‘With his personality and life achievements, Ulrich Wiegel is a role model for us all at Rotkäppchen-Mumm, and on behalf of the shareholders, advisory board and Executive Board, we would like to extend our deepest thanks to him. Through his extensive experience and unrivalled knowledge in the sparkling wine sector, he made a decisive contribution to our company and created optimal conditions for its future success. His long-planned retirement is also a strong sign of the stability and continuity of our company,’ states Christof Queisser, chairman of the Executive Board at Rotkäppchen-Mumm.

Wiegel’s successor in Freyburg, qualified engineer Dr Mike Eberle (50), will assume his position on 01.04.19, bringing extensive expertise in the production of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and especially beverages. Most recently, Eberle was a member of the management board at Carl Kühne KG in Hamburg, where he was responsible for the entire supply chain management at locations in Germany, France and Poland. He was also previously employed by the Radeberg Group, Sachsenmilch AG and Unilever.

Referring to his successor in the Executive Board, Ulrich Wiegel says, ‘We are delighted that as a nationally and internationally experienced specialist in the consumer goods industry, Dr Mike Eberle will play an active role in shaping the future success of Rotkäppchen-Mumm in Freyburg.’ Eberle will be based in the Saale-Unstrut region, home of the Rotkäppchen-Mumm Sektkellerei.

As COO (Chief Operation Officer), Eberle will be responsible for the production, quality management, technology, purchasing and supply chain management divisions and will report to Chairman of the Executive Board Christof Queisser.
